Drink Review: Kylie Minogue Chardonnay

This isn’t my first time reviewing Kylie Minogue’s wine, but just in case you are unfamiliar, Kylie Minogue is an Australian singer, songwriter and actress. She is the highest-selling female Australian artist of all time, and is often referred to as the ‘Princess of Pop’ by the European Press. Back in 2020, in collaboration with distributor Benchmark Drinks, Kylie launched her own wine brand, Kylie Mingoue Wines. It has now expanded to sell nine different wine varieties. I’ve reviewed a few of those options on the site previously, and you can check those reviews out here and here.

Just before we move on, I talked very briefly about Kylie’s decades long music career, having sold over 80 million records worldwide, and in 2008 being appointed an Officer of the Order of the British for services to music. Her impact on the music industry is undeniable, so even though we’ve expanded our focus, we started as a music blog, and it felt weird to review her wine without reviewing her music as well, so click here to check out my review of her single ‘Kiss of Life’.

Chardonnay
When comparing it to the relatively light aroma of the Rosé which I tried recently this one sure does pack a wallop, very bright on the nose, but also very heavy.

I was therefore expecting the same in regards to the taste, but it was an awful lot lighter than I was expecting, I’d almost go as far as to say that it has a neutral flavour upfront but once it settles you begin to pick up more complex notes. Like I said, I was expecting something a little more robust, especially considering the aroma, but while it was much more subtle that I was expecting, it’s still quite tasty, delightfully tangy, with a taste which lingers on the palate. Lightness is the more pronounced feature of this vintage, but it’s also very refreshing and moreish. I would not say that it is my favourite of the Kylie Wines, especially since I prefer red wine (a nice Merlot or Malbec) but it is tasty, and as it was a gift from Tori B Bearly, I’ll happily drink it. I think perhaps the most important note I could make, is that more so than any of the other Kylie Wines I’ve tried this one gets better as you drink it.
