Annapantsu is a musician, voice actress and content creator from Nova Scotia, Canada. She’s quite a prominent presence on YouTube due to her covers of various songs, I think the first video I saw from them was actually their cover of It’s Tough To Be A God (from The Road to El Dorado) which I’ll be reviewing soon. I really enjoyed their whole vibe, and I was already a fan because of their collaborations with fellow YouTubers Caleb Hyles and Jonathan Young. This isn’t my first time reviewing Annapantsu either, and you can check that out here. Today, however, I will be reviewing her cover of ‘Running Up That Hill’ by Kate Bush, a song which has gained something of a resurgence lately due to it being featured in Stranger Things, although personally I always think of Warehouse 13 when I hear it.
‘Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush Cover)’ is already such a sensational track, and yet Annapantsu elevates it, her voice is truly beautiful, and has the appropriate gravity and weight to it, the soulfulness and energy and aching pain that the original possesses. She delivers all that while adding in her own vibrancy and freshness to the track. I liked the Stranger Things version, but I’m glad that Anna didn’t go too heavy on synth for her version, instead she allowed her own vocal talents to really sell this performance. I did like the heavier percussion, and the light synthy tones though, they all came together to perfect support but not overpower the singing. This was just an amazing cover, that really shows what a talented artist can do.
So that’s what I thought of Annapantsu’s cover of the Kate Bush classic ‘Running Up That Hill’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then you can click the link above. While you’re at it, support the artist by checking out their website, becoming a Patreon and by following them on Twitter and Instagram.
