Food Review: Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee (Breakfast Blend)

So Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee is a coffee brand and business established by Scott Patterson, an actor and musician who is probably most well known for his role as Luke Danes, on Gilmore Girls. He has had a passion for coffee since an early age, and this led to him establishing his own business back in 2017 so that he could develop and bring his own special line of coffee to the consumer. Scott P’s Big Mug Coffee currently offers dozens of varieties, including the Breakfast Blend which we will be trying here today, House Blend, French Roast and Hazelnut, as well as some unique flavours such as Dutch Chocolate, Smooth Caramel Swirl and Butterscotch Cream.

All of the products in the Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee line, are Kosher, Gluten-free, and do not contain artificial sweeteners, genetically modified ingredients or any ingredients which are considered allergens. Okay, now that we’ve talked a little about the business, and the brand, let’s move on to what I thought of the product. First off, I have to thank my friend Joe from American Munchies, who was nice enough to pick me up a batch of the breakfast blend on a recent trip to America otherwise I might not have been able to try it until it became more readily available here in the UK.

Breakfast Blend
So first off, I feel like you can judge a really good coffee by the smell, and the breakfast blend has a warm, hearty and inviting aroma. It’s the kind of thing that gets you out of your bed in the morning. It’s not overpowering though, finding a nice balance, something I’m sure will be reflected in the flavour profile as well.

So I usually take my coffee with milk and sugar, but as this is such a special review, I figured I would also try it without anything extra just so I can have a more complete and honest flavour experience.

So completely unaltered, and brewed as per the instructions, it’s very smooth, without a bitter note that you can get with some coffee. It had a well balanced flavour, not without its robust elements but it’s not overbearing on the palate. In short, ideal for the first coffee of the morning, and very befitting of a breakfast blend. There’s also a subtle tangy note which adds to the overall flavour of the drink, and gives the whole thing some character.

Adding in a couple spoonfuls of sugar and a splash of milk brings it to how I usually drink coffee, but in all honesty the breakfast blend is so palatable as it comes that it really doesn’t need masking or enhancing. That being said, a little bit of milk helps to bring out the tangy note I noticed. Overall, the breakfast blend is a terrific coffee, and I am eager to try more in the future.
