Single Review: The Great Emu War Casualties – Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy

The Great Emu War Casualties are a three piece indie/art-rock/alt-pop outfit from Melbourne, Australia. They are made up of Joe Jackson on Guitar/Vocals, Saskia Clapton on Bass Guitar and Keys and Bibek Tamang on Drums. Today, I will be reviewing their single ‘Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy’ which was released on 26th November 2021.

‘Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy’ opens fast with a drum fill that blends with strings to create an energetic, upbeat melody; it blends well with the vocal talent of Jackson. I like the energy of the track, you just get swept away, and I like how the drums and guitars still just hammer full tilt despite the fact that the song has more of a soft feel about it. It’s a nice counterpoint that really works for the track. I hadn’t heard of the band before this track landed in my inbox but I think I’ll be keep an eye out for them in the future cause this was superb. I especially like the end, where it faded out on a really neat electronic warbling, added a sort of offbeat element at the end that I really enjoyed.

So that’s what I thought of The Great Emu War Casualties single ‘Boutique Suite In Funky Fitzroy’ which you can check out over on Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook and Instagram, and by checking out their website.
