Single Review: Tidal Wave – Next Year

Tidal Wave are a Toronto-based seven piece art-rock group inspired by the likes of Depeche Mode and Arcade Fire. Today, I will be reviewing their single ‘Next Year’ which was released on August 5th 2021.

‘Next Year’ opens with slow, tentative strings bringing a rich, harmonious orchestral feel, and instantly making me like the track…I have a weakness for incorporation in unique instruments like this. It slowly blends with more familiar rock stylings, such as light but fast drums and a central guitar that pushes it forward. This all builds until the vocals kick in and the instrumentals drop off, the vocals themselves are soft and gentle, almost like a whisper or an echo, but not without power or impact. They are quickly joined by a more even tempo guitar and drum melody, which incorporates elements of other strings to create a glorious and frenzied musical rhythm that’s just truly incredible. The vocal harmonies towards the end are a particular highlight. Seriously, if you do anything today, check out this bittersweet track by Tidal Wave. You will not regret it.

So that’s what I thought of Tidal Wave’s single ‘Next Year’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
