Single Review: Waverley – Missing Thing

Waverley (stylised as waverley.) are a four piece indie rock outfit from Edinburgh who formed back in 2018. Today I will be reviewing their single ‘Missing Thing’ which was released on June 11th 2021.

‘Missing Thing’ starts slow with a sustained but building note, light percussion layered on top, quickly joined by strings, as the melody gets fleshed out. It keeps a nice pace, just a chilled out melody that manages to be both richly textured without being overly complex. The vocals are top notch, his voice is deep and warm, and blends perfectly with the instrumental backing. I like that the track keeps building as well, percussion takes the edge just a touch, and it picks up in energy but not too much. I always enjoy a good homegrown track, especially since lately I’ve been getting a lot more international submissions but this track and Waverley prove that Scotland knows good music, because this is an absolute tune.

So that’s what I thought about Waverley’s single ‘Missing Thing’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
