Single Review: KiNG MALA – Mercy

KiNG MALA - Mercy Artwork

Areli Castro, also known as KiNG MALA is an El Paso born queer alternative soul singer/songwriter who is based in Los Angeles. Today, I will be reviewing their single ‘Mercy’ which was released on the 22nd July 2021.

‘Mercy’ has a heavy intro, a rushing note that flows into KiNG MALA’s amazing vocals, rich and sultry, powerful and striking, dominate the track. It is counterpointed by heavier percussive elements that add more weight to the track. All of the elements, the jangling keys, the telephone dial tone, all add a feeling of almost unease which really works for the track. This song has some real personality, its not the product of the music industry cookie cutter, and it’s easily one of my favourite tracks of the month, if not the year.

So that’s what I thought of KiNG MALA’s single ‘Mercy’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. Make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
