EP Review: Cadaver Club – Nine Sweet Angels

Cadaver Club are a four piece funeral punk outfit from Ireland made up of Mr. Crowe on Vocals, Dirge on Guitar, Boom Chic Chic on Bass and Draggle on Drums. Today I’ll be reviewing their latest EP ‘Nine Sweet Angels’ which was released on the 31st October 2020.

‘Nine Sweet Angels’ kicks off the EP with a high energy track that hammers forward, and for a first experience with the band, I’m instantly hooked, speaking of which, the track has a catchy wee hook, and the whole track sticks in your head. I liked the slow fade at the end as well, it doesn’t feel too abrupt so we don’t feel like we’ve lost any of the energy and tempo built up throughout the track.

‘Scarecrow Down’ is harder, but makes great use of the speed and energy I talked about in the previous track. I didn’t talk about it before but I’m already a huge fan of the vocals, they are tight and really work with the vibe of the song. Following on from that, can I just say how catchy these songs are, I was singing ‘straight out of hell’ so myself when I went to the shop earlier and spooked some old lady.

‘Coppercombe Blues (Acoustic)’ changes things up slightly, but it works really well, the softer, slower acoustic tones of this track give them a chance to shine even more vocally and we get some good harmonies in this track especially. I also like how subtly, but intricately layered everything is, for example I almost didn’t notice the percussion at first and yet all together each element blends richly with the next to make something brilliant.

‘Long In The Tooth (Acoustic)’ speeds things up again after the slower previous track, but it still keeps the softer melodic acoustic vibe, which personally I liked. I can’t decide if I liked the first half or the second half best, I can say that all four songs work well together creating a cohesive EP that has easily converted me into a fan, so Cadaver Club, where do I sign up? But each song also stands well individually, and overall I just throughout enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish.

So that’s what I thought of Cadaver Club’s EP ‘Nine Sweet Angels’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Bandcamp. Make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
