Single Review: Victoria Moralez – Eyes Off The Prize

Victoria Moralez - Eyes Off The Prize Artwork

Victoria Moralez is an artist who hails from Sweden and a female vocalist who is leading the path for European female pop. She is taking giant leaps with each release, and her new release comes with a potency which is challenging to resist.

‘Eyes Off The Prize’ is a message about having what you cannot get. Ultimately, it leads us down a road which we are all too familiar with, and her approach to songwriting is refreshing. Musically, it has plenty of flavours popping out, and it delves into a darker side of pop with the singer staying well away from the status quo of the contemporary scene.

It kicks off with a melody lead which echoes around the speakers in a terrifying aura. But, it paradoxically also provides a sense of calm and tranquillity with its laid back and mesmerising stance. A beat also accompanies the track although it is very minimalistic with just a beat hit tapping away from the get-go. The rhythm never really materialises into anything more. But a record like this one does not need a smashing hit in the background. Why? Because the rest of the track does the talking.

We are then in with a strong vocal performance from Victoria which adopts a soft and gentle singing approach. Her breathy technique adds plenty of effect to the track, and it adds to the theme with her often sounding out of breath, which does match the lyrics if you listen carefully. However, she does delve into a more robust space in the chorus sections with all guns blazing in triumphant style.

As the track progresses, we stop and start with the momentum growing before driving to a halt, it keeps us on the edge of our seat, and I relish the unique structure.
Check out the track over on Spotify, and make sure and follow the artist on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
