I prayed for rain from the cold and grey,
To wash the sins of the streets away
To cleanse the slabs and rinse the tar,
So I can get out without the car

See underfoot with the dust and grit,
Is your dug’s mess and yer maw’s spit
Diseases crawling towards every door,
Walking them in from shoes tae floor

Going oot tae the shoaps is a calculated venture,
Multiplied by persons unseeing of the danger
Divided attitudes to masks and distance,
Like baring their faces as an act of resistance

We’ve all been telt we need tae flatten that curve,
So keep 2 meters and gie people a wee swerve
Soap is our weapon in this war on corona,
So dinnae pop my space bubble just move a bit over

It’s no quite the blitz with threats from the air,
It’s everything yer touching and doon there on the flair
It’s time for clean living for spacing for queuing,
To think about life and things we are doing

We’ve been exhausting this planet for stuff we don’t need,
To bleed an existence of consumption and greed
The get out strategy involves becoming more mindful,
That we may all step out freely just not into a mine field

About the Author

I am a self taught cameraman and video editor and creator of Unchained Media Scotland.  The model being a concept that I developed whilst involved in other alternative media.  Quite simply we are not for profit and keep our funds healthy by providing video production services to other not for profit organisations.   Poetry for me is something that I have always thought about doing but could never seem to do but the lockdown gave me a whole load of free time and space which I decided to embrace.  Our lives are all changing and this is a lot to process.  Writing poetry allowed me to deal with my feelings in a healthy manner and leading by example encouraged others in the team to follow.  We’ve had a great response and the climax could well be having our recitals played on local FM radio; SunnyG.
