Single Review: Malese Jow – Trying to Sleep

Malese Jow - Trying to Sleep

Elizabeth Melise Jow more commonly known as Malese Jow or simply Melise is an American actress and singer. I first saw Melise on The Vampire Diaries as Anna and I fell in love with her character, she brought a depth and innocence to the role that really helped me to engage with her story arc. I have since seen her on The Flash as Linda Park/Doctor Light and The Shannara Chronicles as Mareth Ravenlock but today I am not here to talk about her acting but instead her music, so with that in mind I will be reviewing her single ‘Trying to Sleep’.

‘Trying to Sleep’ kicks off immediately with Malese’s vocals and a vibrant and high energy instrumental backing that supports them perfectly. I am truly in awe of her voice though, I suspected she’d be talented but her vocals are amazing, I’m just sad this is the first time I’ve heard her sing because she has a voice that’s strong, distinct, clear and yet truly beautiful. Listening to it, everything fell away apart from her voice, but zoning back in I was also impressed by the deeply layered and quick tempo instrumentals that act almost as a counterpoint to her more soulful and slower ballad.

So that’s what I thought of Malese Jow’s single ‘Trying to Sleep’ and If you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. Make sure and support the artist by following them on Instagram as well.
