Single Review: Emi V – Walking Away

Emi V - Walking Away Artwork

Emi V is a 16-year-old multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter from Ayrshire Scotland, who has been described, quite rightly I think, as “Ayrshire’s brightest up and coming talent”. Having gigged successfully across Scotland for a couple of years now, she recently (exactly two months ago) dropped her debut single ‘Open Your Eyes’ to much critical acclaim, and you can check out what I thought about it here. If you haven’t already make sure and check out this video interview I did with her back in September 2019, hopefully you’ll enjoy finding out more about her. Anyway, she’s back again, today I will be reviewing her latest release ‘Walking Away’ which was released, today, 23/04/2020. Please considering purchasing the release either on Amazon or Itunes as all proceeds go to the Tech Device Network, an initiative set up by Jenn Nimmo Smith, who is working with Scottish Care to collect/purchase devices which will allow at risk individuals in care homes to be able to contact their family and friends remotely during the quarantine caused by COVID-19. You can also donate directly via the link here as well. So now that I’ve said all that, and hopefully haven’t lost you, please check out my review of ‘Walking Away’ below.

‘Walking Away’ kicks off with Emi’s spectacular voice, truly breathtaking, but what’s even more impressive is the raw, unfiltered emotion, someone so young yet fully cognizant and aware, it’s a rare gift indeed to be this talented, and she’s making full use of those talents. Full disclosure, I received this today, and wanted it up today, usually this would mean a lot of rushing about to make sure I’ve given the track a good few listens, and that was the case here, but i didn’t feel like work, It felt like a gift to get to see another step forward in the what I’m sure will be a phenomenal career for this talented young artist. I also suggest that you listen to it a good few times, not just because it’s a great track, but because it gets better with subsequent listens, it’s emotional, deep and resonant, right off the bat but it gets more complex and yet someone counterintuitively simple as you listen to it, all I can say, is you need to listen to it for yourself.

So that’s what I thought of Emi V’s single ‘Walking Away’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify, there’s also an official video for the track, which you can check out on YouTube as well. Make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
