SOPP are an alternative post-punk duo based in Frodsham, Cheshire made up of Aaron Bennett and Alex McArthur and today I’ll be reviewing their debut single ‘Out Of My Mind’ which was released 22nd March 2019.
‘Out Of My Mind’ has a fun little electronic harmonising noise that slowly builds, blending in some nice percussion, a few different kinds in fact, to create a rich intro. I honestly wasn’t expecting the difference between the instrumental opening and the vocals, they have a strong, classic punky feel, very confrontational and powerful, and I just wasn’t expecting it after the intro, but honestly it worked really well, created a nice contrast, and both aspects work incredibly well. I also like the balance between the simpler sections, with just one or two things happening, and the more frenzied, energy filled and complex parts filled with things, it’s again a really nice counterpoint that makes this not only an incredibly track, but also a deeply impressive debut track from a band, that I am sure have gone on to do great things since.
So that’s what I thought of SOPP’s debut single ‘Out Of My Mind’ and if you want to check that out then head on over to Spotify. While you’re doing that make sure and support the band by following them on Facebook.
