Beth Macari is a singer-songwriter from Newcastle who performs her own unique brand of Soul, Pop and funk music. I’ve reviewed her before and you can check that out here. But today I’ll be reviewing her cover of ‘Sweet Transvestite’ from the 1975 musical comedy horror film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which in turn is based on The Rocky Horror Show, a musical which first debuted on 19th June 1973.
‘Sweet Transvestite’ is fantastic, not only is this one of my favourite songs from the musical but Beth Macari’s talent transcends my nostalgia and love for the original song, and makes it her own. Her cover is vibrant, exciting and phenomenal, her voice really works with the song, and I lost count of the amount of times I listened to it while reviewing the track. She just put so much passion and intensity into her performance, and captured what I feel is the raw energy of the original while, quite honestly improving it. Also I usually don’t comment specifically on a video, but the video for this is so well produced and fabulous in its own right that I felt it at least deserved a mention.
So that’s what I thought of Beth Macari’s cover of ‘Sweet Transvestite’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to YouTube. After you’ve done that make sure and support the artist by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
