Top 10: KittyKatGaming One-offs

KittyKatGaming (One-offs)

KittyKatGaming is a YouTube channel which was created on July 22nd 2014, with the first video being uploaded on January 1st 2015. The channel is hosted by Suzy Berhow (also known as Mortem3r) an artist, animator, model, jeweller, voice actor, taxidermist, entrepreneur and member of the Game Grumps (a channel ran by her husband Arin Hanson also known as Egoraptor).

Her initial plan for KittyKatGaming was to post content such as video game DIYs, cosplay, makeup tutorials and even video game inspired outfits of the day, however following the original introduction video, her channel became more Let’s Play focused. Also following the introduction, she released her first playthrough, and this was of the game Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which aired on her channel on March 10th 2015. The channel operated consistently until January 17th 2019 when she announced that she will cease uploading content to the channel as she has begun to lose money, instead she planned to move towards doing live-streams instead. Okay now that I’ve told you a little more about KittyKatGaming (KKG) it’s time for the list, check that out below.

1. House Flipper
This is a fun little playthrough, and because she’s reviewing the game for the fans, on behalf of the developer she’s also taking it serious and providing feedback. It was actually one of the reasons I ended up playing this game myself. I also found it really real and honest, having her put off answering emails to fix all of the off-centre items in the household. I also really connected with her story about cleaning being a destressing activity. If you’re interested Game Grumps also played this game and you can check that out here.

2. Kleptocats
It has cute cats and adorable graphics, need I say anymore? Yes? Okay! It also has an interesting premise, you decorate your house by sending your cats out to steal. I liked this partly because of the game, but also because Suzy genuinely seemed like she was having fun, and that for me makes all the difference. I also liked the little kitty cat Skyrim reference thrown in as well.

3. Plant Nanny
Now I had this app, and I have to admit I was more conscientious about drinking water while I had it because I was super concerned for looking after my plant. This is just another game that I engaged with a lot more because of Suzy’s energy and positivity, and just how she seemed to enjoy playing it. I’m sad that she didn’t get to name her Devil’s Ivy, Thomas as she’d planned because that’s also my name and that would have been cool.

4. My Tamagotchi Forever
Tamagotchi’s are evil, this game, arguably less so. I watched this after hearing an out of context line from it, where Suzy has to help her Tamagotchi use the bathroom. The line in question “wow we had to help him poop too, really?” it just caught me off guard with the incredulousness in the tone. Also it’s nice that no matter how much we evolve technologically, that Tamagotchi’s are still needy and demanding.

5. Heart’s Medicine
Despite being fairly simple and probably not worth the hassle to get into, I unironically enjoy games like this so I had a whole lot of fun watching Suzy play this, especially with Suzy’s commentary which made me laugh more than a few times.

6. Esport Manager
I watched this because it was in the related videos to the YouTube Red series ‘Good Game‘ featuring Suzy’s husband Arin Hanson (also known as Egoraptor) the co-host and founder of Game Grumps. In Good Game, he and Dan Avidan (also known as Danny Sexbang) also from Game Grumps start an Esports team, which is the reason I’m guessing, along with KittyKatGaming being affiliated with Game Grumps as to why it was in the related videos feed. Speaking of Good Game, you can click here to read my review of Good Game. Anyway, much like the previous Developer Dump episode on this list, House Flippers, what I liked about this is that she went through it pretty thoroughly to make sure she accurately reviewed/promoted the game for the developer.

7. Hot Date
In this episode Suzy and special guest, former Game Grumps editor editor Barry Kramer (also known as razzadoop) date an adorable pug, that alone would have been enough to get me to click on it, but as always Suzy delivers a fun video, and bounces off Barry really well, the pair have great chemistry that helps to make the episode a success.

8. Dinosaurs are People Too
Much like other Let’s Players Suzy will play popular games, or ones guaranteed to get clicks, but something I really like about her and this channel is that she’s willing to give a whole host of games, including mobile games a chance, and it usually results in a fun experience.

9. Can Your Pet?
I touched on the point above but as well as trying out a variety of games, seemingly unconcerned with whether the game itself will draw in big numbers, she will also take suggestions from fans, which is a big positive for the channel. Also I like when she plays adorable games like this because it suits who she is, much like how Arin works well with games that are crazy because it allows him to have fun reacting to it.

10. Tiny Bird Garden
I actually played this game myself and really enjoyed it, also this would totally be a good game for Holly Conrad (also known as Commander Holly) or Jon Jafari (also known as Jontron) who are both noted gamers and bird lovers to play. It also reminds me of another game I played and really enjoyed called Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector which I strongly suggest you check out if you like these types of games, and love cute cats. If you do play, make sure and watch out for Tubbs. I’ve mentioned it a few times but Suzy balances up playing and having fun with demonstrating features of the game so you can make a more informed decision about whether to get the game for yourself.

Honourable mentions go to Re:Load, John Cena’s Sexy High School Experience and Miaou Moon which I also really enjoyed but didn’t quite make the top 10 list.

So those were my Top 10 KittyKatGaming One-offs and if you want to check out the channel and find your own then head on over to YouTube. While you’re at it make sure and follow Suzy on Twitter, Instagram and Twitch. Make sure and also check out their Etsy store as well.
