Top 10: Collegehumor videos (Standalone)

*This list was original posted on 20/11/2019 and updated on 09/01/2020 to include new information.

Collegehumor, for those who don’t already know, was a humor website launched initially in December 7th 1999 by two high school friends (Josh Abramson and Ricky Van Veen) with help from web developer Jake Lodwick and featured a variety of humor videos and articles generated by their in-house writing and production teams, along with user generated content as well. They also branched out onto the YouTube platform on October 9th 2006. The site, was sadly shut down, ceasing publication of new articles in January 2019, with the URL now redirecting to their YouTube channel as of October 4th 2019. However while they are no longer operating via their site, the YouTube channel continues to produce content, and so I’ve compiled this list of my Top 10 standalone Collegehumor videos, it’s a companion piece to a similar Top 10 which discusses my favourite Collegehumor series and you can check that out here. I also did a similar set of Top 10’s Cracked, and if you want to check that out click here and here.

It was announced on January 8th 2020 that CollegeHumor’s parent company IAC would no longer be financing CollegeHumor/CH Media, this was announced by Sam Reich, its chief commercial officer who revealed via information via Twitter, I encourage you to check that out here, and share and retweet with the hashtag (#SaveCollegeHumor).

Anyway, on to my Top 10 standalone CollegeHumor List below.

1. Batman has a Drinking Problem
This always catches me off guard in terms of how funny it is, because there’s a real honesty to the Batman character, just kind of falling apart right before the eyes of the commissioner and Robin.

2. ShamWow Guy in Jail
This is just hilarious although the ShamWow guy did apparently assault someone so also a little sad in retrospect but it’s just a little mad, just someone refusing to accept his reality.

3. CSI: Scooby Doo
Takes Scooby Doo to its inevitable darker conclusion and absolutely love it. Check this video out now.

4. RPG Heroes are Jerks
I love RPGs and even I can agree that from the outside, your Journey is unnamed hero must be awful for the NPCs and this CollegeHumor video highlights this in a very funny way.

5. Sim City Mayor
Is dark and funny and also really made me want to go back and play Sim City, it has the actor whom I exclusively think of as the CollegeHumor Dad.

6. All R.A Floor
This is one of those sketches that either works or doesn’t and in my opinion it really does, it’s silly and totally makes me laugh. More importantly despite not having R.A’s in the UK, at least to my knowledge it still manages to make me laugh even if it’s not in a ‘I’ve been there’ kinda way.

7. Nicolas Cage’s Agent
I struggled with whether to include this one or the Chris Brown one, in the end I decided I didn’t want to passively support someone who assaults women so I went with good ol’ Nick Cage. Either way you get a long suffering agent dealing with the foibles of his client.

8. McFuneral
CollegeHumor manages to blend the dark and absurd really well, that’s what makes McFuneral, the animated funeral of Ronald McDonald so funny.

9. The Really, Really Giving Tree
This sketch is based on the classic Shel Silverstein novel but taken to the absurd extreme, a selfish boy and a doormat of a Tree. In my opinion it’s well worth a watch.

10. 31 Words that Sound Like Slurs but Aren’t
I think I can honestly get behind anything, whether it’s silly or as potentially offensive as this video if it’s presented to me as a song because catchy songs just get stuck in my head.

Honourable mentions go to Sex with The Hulk, Cereal Mascot Therapy Session, We Didn’t Start the Flame War, Sexually Confused Ninja and Zordon is a Racist which I also really enjoyed but didn’t quite make the top 10 list.
