The Naked Feedback are a four piece swedge rock group from Blantyre made up of Dean Anderson on Guitar/Vocals, Callum Anderson on Guitar/Vocals, JackΩ on Bass/Vocals and Derek Whiteford on Drums. I will be reviewing their new EP ‘Something wicked This Way Comes’ which was released on the 19th March 2018.
‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ opens with a nice little bit of feedback, which serves to build a sense of almost dread, and once the lead vocalist takes off and really gives it his all you’ll be hooked just like I was. I really enjoyed this track, it has an offbeat energy and at the end of a long writing session it really perked me up and reminded me that there are always new and pleasant surprises when you review music. ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ is a bit longer than the tracks I usually listen to but it doesn’t drag, in fact it really has fun with the time it has, almost playing with the listener, and that level of awareness isn’t something that every band can pull off.
‘Supplier of the Rationale’ is a lot more direct than the previous track, a lot more drive to it, and it gives the vocalist plenty of chances to show off what he’s got. The guitar sections of this track are its real highlight though, it has plenty of diverse sounds throughout and all the while his an internal consistency that keeps you going along with it to the end.
‘Devil in the Doorway’ shoots straight out, and it delivers early, it’s not often I can hear just an intro and tell I’m going to like a track, sometimes it even takes a few listens but this one I could tell I’d like. Being honest, I think I just really like the style of the band, they have something that goes into each track, a special ingredient that really works and because of that I really enjoyed ‘Devil in the Doorway’ that and I’m a fan of song titles that are interesting or evocative.
‘The Hypnotiser’ intro is just the clacking together of drumsticks, that is drawn out just long enough, and then the drums kick in properly and the song starts in earnest. And in particular I want to applaud the vocals for this track which are really strong. I think in terms of its placement on the EP this track works really well as a closer and its bring to an end a really great EP.
So that’s what I thought of The Naked Feedback and their EP ‘Something Wicked This Way Comes’ and keep an eye on their social media to get a copy for yourself. Speaking of which if you want to keep up to date with The Naked Feedback then follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
