Chris Jones is a singer/songwriter and musician from Kilmarnock. Prior to embarking on his solo career he was the singer for an alternative rock outfit called ‘Weather Forcats’. If you’d like to find out more about Chris Jones you can check out this interview I did with him by clicking here. Today, however, I will be reviewing his debut EP ‘A Story of Human Limitations’ which was released on 30th August 2017.
‘How many times?’ starts of lightly with an upbeat little acoustic guitar section accompanied by Chris Jones vocals which are top notch. Sometimes when I review an album or an EP a personally can be better either at singing or playing their instrument but Chris finds a balance and so ‘How many times?’ is a charming and well put together first track. I classified the intro as upbeat and I stand by that but I can’t say that the song is necessarily upbeat but it is really good.
‘Sober’ again has another really good intro, weirdly it reminded me of overkill the song you might have heard in that one scrubs episode. The similarities stop there and no offence to whoever wrote that other song but this is so good. I did this review the same day I got it which is rare and this song is the standout track for me. I’m actually a bit drunk as a write this but ‘Sober is a technically brilliant song that will definitely make it’s way onto my IPod playlist.
‘Another word for…’ kinda cinches it for me. I always try to be positive when i do reviews but I really like this one. Often when I get a review I go into it with an open mind in this case it isn’t necessary because it’s just really good. This song is soothing and tells a clear story which is very impressive.
‘Burn’ starts off with drumsticks clicking which I always like because it makes everything feel real and visceral and gets better. It flows really well and is fighting ‘Sober for my personal favourite on the EP.
‘Maybe tonight’ is another smashing track that again just flows really well. His accent is much clearer on this track and it enhances the overall song quite well. I guess because it sounds honest he’s not putting out something that’s overproduced instead it sounds real and genuine. This song especially would be perfect on stage and i’d very much like to see him.perform it live.
So that’s what I thought of Chris Jones’s EP ‘A Story of Human Limitations’ and if you want to check that out for yourself then head on over to Spotify. While you’re at it, support the artist by following them on Facebook.
